Well and truly Above Average

Above Average (photo by Bruno Canatelli) sealed the Ball & Chains plunge punt on their European import.

Stepping out onto Australian turf for the first time in his career, Above Average was subject to a fierce plunge by his loyal band of Ball & Chain Syndicate owners............and for the final 600m it looked as though it was in grave doubt!

Settling well in the first 1/2 mile, Dwayne felt his mount switch off as they rounded for home. With the field sprinting away with 500m to go, the import was left "out of gear" and struggled to get balanced to keep in touch. It genuinely looked as though the plunge, had plunged! However, Dwayne got down to work and pumped the Irish bred son of High Chapparel into overdrive and he changed stride, balanced and exploded in the last 15m to win the event in the dying strides. A truly bullish performance.

"They won't believe me in Europe that I trained this colt to win over 1600m on a hard track" gloated Lee Freedman "His form is up 2 miles in Europe and my old mate Barry Hills had him running in races like the Irish St Leger."

"I think what you have to remember about this horse is that he has only just turned four............all of his racing last season was as a three old and to look at, he is still not fully furnished."

"He really is a genuinly exciting prospect."

Purchased by Badger's Bloodstock for the No.2 Ball & Chain Syndicate, Above Average is one of three horses bought out of England in November '09. In conjunction with Ajhar and Fanjura it would appear that the new "it" syndicate will be a featuring prominantly in the Spring.
