An outstanding start to the season as Viennese and Woppit run one, two in the first stakes race for 3-Y-O fillies.
With a poor blood picture accounting for Sugar Babe's scratching from the Quezette on the Saturday morning, Lee headed to Caulfield with his supposed second stringers Woppit and Vienesse. However, when Woppit put 2 lengths on the chasing field with 400m to run and Vienesse was travelling so kindly in behind, it was suddenly apparent that our misfortune had been turned around.
Vienesse is now Stakes winning two and three year old and although her value is largely irrelevant as HRH Sheikh Mohammed purchased her to breed from, she would surely be one of the most sought after future broodmares in Australia as a full sister to the Oakleigh Plate winning Snitzel .
Where we head to from here is yet to be decided, however it clear that she might even get over 1400m+ and the future programming could be very interesting indeed.
Freedman's other runners also left their mark in the black book of many a punter. Firstly Cat's Fun did the unexpected and ran home strongly to grab second in the 1600m handicap and his odds were sharply dragged in for the Melbourne Cup. Exceedingly Good ran an enormous first up race to further enhance his value with a placing in the Listed Vain Stakes ;given a kinder run off the pace, he would have almost certainly taken the biscuit. Dane Julia made up good ground on a leader biased track and is certainly on course for Stakes glory over a 1600m and finally Sonic Quest did nothing wrong when lumping 59.5kg in the 1200m Handicap.
