Electromotive and Dwayne Dunn were more elated about winning the Sale Cup, but the winner brought up Lee's 800th winner from his Rye property.
LEE Freedman has his sights on Melbourne Cup week with Sunday's Sale Cup winner Electromotive. Backed from $4 to $3.30 favouritism, Electromotive swooped on his rivals halfway down the straight to beat Gold Salute ($12) by 2 1/4 lengths in the Listed $120,000 Sale Cup (1600m).
Freedman said Electromotive would be nominated for the Hong Kong Jockey Club Plate (1400m) on Melbourne Cup day and did not rule out the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) on Saturday week.
"We'll see how he draws on Cup day, we may have a shot at the stumps in the Emirates," Freedman said. "His problem will be getting a run. His rating should go up from 91 to 97 or 98 after today but he might struggle to get a run."
Jockey Dwayne Dunn said he had wanted to ride Electromotive closer to the speed but the hectic early pace saw him settle mid-field.
"As it turned out he was suited by the pattern," Dunn said. "He's done well to turn around his misfortune and is really blooming of late."
Congratulations to the winning connections Mr Ichimura and his Australian representative Satomi Oka on his 5th lifetime win from only 15 starts. The half brother to the Group 1 winning Hat Trick is carving an exciting career as he progresses through the ranks.
