TARIKS

Tariks reversed her Cup Day run with an impressive display of sprinting speed at Sandown on Saturday when ridden by Jason Maskiell.

Sent off at 9/2, the Keith Biggs owned Tariks carried 56kg after Jason Maskiell's 3kg claim and Lee Freedman was quick to point out that "you get more than just 3kg off when you book Jason!". Showing her usual early speed, Maskiell settled the daughter of Rock of Gibraltar kindly into her rhythm and astutely chose a fresh strip of virgin turf 4 off the fence.

Working her through her gears in the straight, the tasmanian jockey was hard at work with 200m to go, but it was plain to see that Tariks was responding to Maskiell's strength and she held off for a 1/2 length win in a time of 56.50sec.

"Good ride, tough horse" said DLF post race "That was only her second win, but it is worth noting that she has had 5 seconds with 3 of those at Stakes Level."

Although the decision has yet to be confirmed, Tariks is likely to be awarded another win when running a 3/4 length second to Starspangledbanner on 1st August at Caulfield.
