Brand New Pair (pictured) goes from $5,000 dollar yearling to the winner of $13,500 in just 3 starts . . . . . But its the promise of whats to come that most exciting.
Purchased by Simon O'Donnel and Terry Henderson's OTI syndication company for a paltry sum of $5,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale in 2006, Brand New Pair has a future in the Autumn following her impressive Maiden win at Bendigo on Cup day.
A daughter of the relatively unexposed Nureyev stallion Black Hawk, Brand New Pair was origionaly bought for her residual value as her 1/2 sister called Reliability (trained by Lee) possessed a nomination in the Tasmanian Oaks. However, her debut run in April to subsequent Stakes performed and Freedman trained Palm Trilogy suggested that she too had a "bigger than average" engine.
Bred by Northern Farm and sold through the Bellreive draft, Brand New Pair is out of a Nashwan mare called Capability. Although not greatly performed herself, she is closely related to an English Family that dominated the Derby's and Oaks of the late 80's and early 90's through Lamtarra, Snow Bride, Hector Protector and Bosrha Sham.
"Breaking her debut today" said Anthony Freedman "Followed a substantial break over the Winter and Spring. Furthermore, it will allow us to give her a brief let up over the next few weeks, before looking towards a more rigerous Autumn campaign where we can work her up through the grades."
