Nothing To Dread About This Performance

10th May, 2017

Up in trip on his favourite surface proved a winning formula again for Dreaded, when he took out the Rosemont Stud BM64 Handicap at Geelong on Tuesday.

Held firm by punters at the $5.50 quote following his last start seventh on the Pakenham synthetic track over 1600 metres, the son of Shocking really appreciated today’s step up to the 1900 metres. Aided by a strong speed throughout the event, Dreaded came from the tail of the twelve-horse field to score his third victory.

Given his quirky nature, rider Daniel Moor went into the race open minded. After being slow to muster, Moor had no option but to settle the three-year-old at the tail of the field. When the leaders were six deep leaving the straight the first time and the pace increasing, it appeared he was going to get all favours. Heading into the back straight, Dreaded was twenty lengths from the leaders, travelling in a comfortable rhythm.

Produced to the outside on straightening, the Lee and Anthony Freedman trained galloper showed his staying capabilities running over the top of the field to win and take his career earnings over $64,000.

Moor admitted he was aided by the hectic early speed and was pleased the gelding had finally delivered what he had shown in training.

“He is a horse that shows plenty on the training tracks, but is yet to fully show it on the race track’ He said. “If he can continue to improve, he should be able to be competitive in tougher races.”

The Freedman brothers will continue, where possible, to target races on the synthetic surface for the gelding but will be dictated to by the upcoming programme with limited racing past the BM64 grade.

Dreaded’s victory today bought up jockey Daniel Moor’s fifty-first victory for the season.
