The expensive son of Redoute's, went from a maiden to stable star in 59.78sec and had his trainer's confidence in him confirmed.
TIME THIEF its name you are going to hear a fair bit of! Sent to town for his first racecourse (and public) appearance in a rated 0-82 race for 3 year olds over 1000m and installed a $3.40 favourite, it was evident that Lee Freedman was certainly bullish about his chances and consequently quite justifiably so!
A little slowly away, Dunn had him quickly up on to the pace and in behind the leader. Clearly gifted with a high cruising speed, Foreplay's 3 part brother angled off heels and swung into the straight while still firmly on the steel. Given his head with 300m to run, Time Thief let down with a blistering turn of foot to dispose of a field that had earned the description of "certainly Saturday class, if not better!".
"He's just a push button horse that has a great attitude and does everything a jockey asks, he has a lot of improvement in him but he's a very relaxed colt." Said a delighted Dwayne Dunn who had been pivotal in the colts progression through to this race.
"Last year it was proven a horse can get to the Caulfield Guineas on the back of a handful of starts. I'm not saying he's Weekend Hussler, but at least he showed it could be done on the back of a handful of starts."
Freedman said Time Thief, a $2 million Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Sheik Mohammed, had been in work last spring but contracted a virus.
"I think, forgetting his price tag, it was a good effort to go to town and win first-up, particularly in a rating 82 race, and there were some nice horses in that race," Freedman said. "I like the way he put himself into the race. We're behind time for the good races, but at least we're off to a good start."
