Lee Freedman has given Peter Carrick's and Swettenham Stud's new Stallion KAPHERO the seal of approval.
"I have a mare that will be going to him" Said Lee Freedman "The fastest sons and grandsons of Danehill are what I like to buy at the yearlings sales and the few mares that I breed are sent to stallions that were just that."
Lee Freedman trained Kaphero to victory in the Blue Diamond Preview and the Adelaide Magic Millions and fondly recalls the colt that Lee picked out for Peter Carrick at the Magic Millions sales of 2005 for $340,000.
"Pete's got a good eye for a horse and we both agreed that this was the colt of that sale. He developed into a real precocious ball of speed during the Spring and won first up down the straight in December, before picking up the Blue Diamond Preview. In retrospect, his two year old career was outstandingly tough as he won the Magic Millions and then went straight into the Golden Slipper which he displayed blistering speed before tiring in the last 200m. In fact that Slipper was an outstanding form race in seasons to come with Group 1 winners Wonderful World, Gold Edition and Casino Prince all finishing behind him. Throw into the mix that he finished alongside Universal Queen and Empires Choice it was clear that this was a stellar crop of babies."
Kaphero is regally bred and I doubt there is a stallion heading to stud this season with more highly valued blood. A son of the Golden Slipper winning Danzero (whom Lee Freedman trained), Kaphero is from the Group 1 winning mare Kapchat by Centaine - winner of the G1 STC Winfield Classic and placed in the G1 Thousand Guineas. In addition to his dam's performance, Kapchat hails from the Our Pompeii,Hunza and Courtza a family which has gone on produced the outstanding stallion in O'Reilly
Swettenham Stud have an early bird deal for Kaphero of $8,250. In which breeders can contact Sam Pritchard-Gordon on 0430 309 428 to secure their booking to this exciting first season stallion.
