FLY TO RIO

The weather has been bitter and the air still thick with winter, but when Freedman took a team of blue bloods across the bay to Geelong it was clear that Spring was just around the corner.

Seven Freedman runners unloaded into the tie ups at Geelong Thoroughtrack and the return trip home had 3 winners, 2 seconds and successful kick-off for Slade's potential Cups horse from New Zealand.
Miss Scarlatti jumped from barrier 3 and settled nicely into the hands of Dwayne Dunn, before hitting the straight and extending away in a good manner for her connections in a time of 1:12.74. and a comfortable length back to second. This was the second winner in two days for the famous pink and blue colours of Keith Biggs and the winning streak hadn't ended there. Furthermore, Freedman has quickly protected the daughter of Crimson's value by disposing of her maiden status in one hit.
Freedman's second up winner was Captain Coltish (Fusaichi Pegasus ex. Skates) and again it was the colt's first time under the starter's orders. Dwayne Dunn returned to scale to say "I was forced o travel a little further forward than I wanted to and coming into the straight he was idling. However when I slipped down s gear he really lowered to the ground and accelerated away like a smart horse that will get over ground." Clocking a time of 1:11.39 and almost a second and half quicker than the fillies 1200m, the future is certainly bright for the Santic / Maher / Pugilisi / Sullivan galloper. (pictured below as a 2-y-o last winter)

Straight off the back of the 1200m colts division was a 1100m maiden and Grand Jardin (pictured below) just blitzed them to cap off Dwayne's first treble for the Freedman's. Jumping like a scolded cat from barrier 12, the son of Redoute's Choice led from pillar to post and had his inferior competitors off the bit before he rounded for home. Stopping the clock in a time of 1:04.13 and putting 5 lengths between him and second and solid 7 lengths between the third placegetter. Already stakes placed, this former $1.5 million dollar yearling is ready to launch is career to the next level and there is no doubting that he too could be a future stallion in the making.

In addition to the three winners, Red Square displayed a good attitude to racing to finish a respectable 4th in his first Australian appearance and Port Isabel struggled to overcome her horror barrier, but still ran a respectable 5th. Choisism almost grabbed another win, only to be bobbed on the line by a progressive galloper that he gave plenty of weight too.
Lee concluded the day by saying "This thorough track surface is a godsend as I have wanted to kick off number of my Spring contenders, but have been restricted by heavy tracks and bad weather. That said, I would have been disapointed had I not won with these three as I have shown the necessary patience to allow them to grow into the smart horses that they are now."
When quizzed as to how far they will all go, DLF replied "Who knows? All I've done is given them the best possible start to progress up to their level and I am thankful that this surface offers a safe option for kicking off their careers."
