Darley Stud's Exceed and Excel filly Koala Bear (pictured by Terry Hann of aitkinsphotography) wins the Listed Cinderella Stakes in Adelaide on Cup Day.
Coming off a 4 week let up, Lee Freedman produced Koala Bear in her finest form yet to take out the Listed Cinderalla Stakes. Settled off the pace and in the perfect position for the track conditions, Dwayne Dunn had the daughter of Exceed & Excel relaxed and focused. Eased onto the pace in the straight, she quickened away in fashion not seen in her previous start in the Queen Adelaide Stakes or the Blue Diamond Preview.
Winning in a time of 1min 1.65 sec for the 1050m, Koala Bear added valuable blacktype to a pedigree that is already brimming with excellance. Koala Bear is a granddaughter of the Multiple New Zealand Group performer Arletty by Centaine, who in turn is a full sister to the Waikato Stud resident and Broodmare of the year River Century, the dam of Legs and Guyno.
"Lee has clearly gone back to the drawing board with this filly" said Dwayne Dunn "And whatever he has done has added many lengths of improvement to her. She was outstanding today."
Lee Freedman spoke retrospectively "It is essential that I manage Darley's investments in this manner. A stakes win with this filly strengthens pedigrees and promotes stallions. Such a win gives me a huge satisfaction."
