Classic son of Dundeel

13th February, 2017

Lee and Anthony Freedman believe they have bought one of the bargains of the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney.

They struck on the first night to buy an impressive son of former champion and new sire Dundeel from a Classic-winning international family.

Lot 60 (pictured), the colt is from the winning Testa Rossa mare No Mistaking, who is closely related to G1 Italian Derby winner Don Orazio and the top-class New Zealand miler and sire Al Akbar, the sire of the dam of the great Winx.

This is Anthony Freedman's assessment of this colt.

"An extremely well-made colt with a pedigree that has a blend of speed and stamina. His sire Dundeel was a champion from 1600m to 2400m, and his dam, No Mistaking, won twice at 1400m and 1600m.

"At only $65,000, we believe this colt was outstanding buying and one of the bargains of the sale," he said.

"He has the pedigree and type to be versatile, but should come into his own once the distances get to 1600 metres and beyond.

"Anyone looking for a Classic colt, this is a great opportunity to get involved in the right type of colt at a very reasonable price."

Breeding buffs will like this pedigree as he has a double cross of the great sire Sadler's Wells (grandsire of Dundeel) and also includes his half-brother Perugino, the sire of Testa Rossa.

Later in the sale the Freedmans bought two more colts.

Lot 499, is a bay colt, by Epaulette from Fusaichi Queen (by Fusaichi Pegasus), who cost $75,000.

Comment: A strongly built colt by the impressive first-season sire Epaulette, a Group 1-winning son of Commands. This colt is from a half-sister to Oakleigh Plate winner Miss Kournikova. Anthony Freedman said the Epaulette yearlings have been most impressive and he was keen to get one of them. This colt fitted the bill at the right price, $75,000. This colt is a mature, well-balanced individual who should run early.

Lot 541, bay colt, by Fighting Sun from Imtops (by High Rolling), who cost $165,000.

Comment: One of the most impressive individuals at the Classic sale, this colt is a son of first-season sire Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor), who was unbeaten as a 2YO, from the former good racemare Imtops, who is the dam of the Inglis 2YO Classic winner Twist Tops. Interestingly, Imtops also is closely related to Fighting Sun, who is a son of Oaks winner Irish Darling. "We waiting until near the end of the sale to get this fellow for $165,000," Anthony Freedman said. The colt was bought in conjunction with Waterford Bloodstock.
