An Awesome Foursome for Dunn & DLF

4th December, 2008

Carl Di Iorio reports for the virtualformguide;

Dwayne Dunn showed punters once again why he's considered one of Australia's leading jockeys, after he and leading Victorian trainer Lee Freedman combined to seize four winners from this afternoon's eight race card at Kyneton. With six rides for Freedman, early pre-post markets suggested the Freedman and Dunn combination was in for a big day.

And it didn't take to long for the duo to draw first blood after three year old filly Pink Siris ($2.50-$3-$2.80) broke through for her first win from seven starts in the opening event on the program, 3AW Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1850m).

Angling out to the middle of the track, Dunn let Pink Siris down inside the final furlong to score with consummate ease. The win made Pink Siris the second horse in consecutive days to be beaten by Mr. Paparazzi at Geelong (on the 16th of November) and win at its subsequent start, following the success of Flash Swift Li yesterday at Moe after Pink Siris edged it out for third last start.

It was fifth time lucky for the Sheikh Mohammed owned Hint ($1.50-$1.70-$1.60) in the second race after a luckless preparation saw the Reset colt fill the runners up stall on four previous occasions. However there were no such dramas this afternoon, as Hint spaced his rivals to win by four and a half lengths ahead of another perennial placegetter Jeune He Is from the Shane Stockdale stable.

The one paced nature of today's six horse maiden over 2000m suited Hint according to Dunn. "Today the penny really dropped on him, he been in races which have been sharp, a little turn of foot leaves him behind." When asked about his potential, Dunn was optimistic in his appraisal. "He deserved to win a race and I'm sure he'll go to town," he said.

A double quickly turned into a treble with Dunn guiding Chichi Dancer ($2.40-$3-$2.60) to victory in the third event.

Working forward to sit outside the leader from eight of eleven before being shuffled back through the field to sit one out and one back, Dunn once again had his mount in the right position to swiftly pounce on tired leaders at the top of the alley. It was a welcome win for the daughter of Fusaichi Pegasus who had found trouble at its previous outing with Dunn in the saddle at Seymour when third.

"She didn't show a turn of foot on the wet the other day and got in a boxing match of sorts," Dunn said. "She came off second best as she lost a shoe and got galloped on bad, so to bounce back today was very good."

Finishing third on Excelify followed by a gallant second on Fuduchonne, it appeared Dunn would have to settle for the treble. That was until favourite Mount Everest ($2-$2.30) gave him four winners for the day with an all the way victory. Attempting to get away with cheap sectionals infront, an immature Mount Everest made Dunn earn his fourth victory of the afternoon as the South Australian born rider tried to tame the three year old colt in the early stages.

"At the start when he got away, I thought he pulled both his front plates off."

"I tried to anchor him up again at the 1200m just to switch him off and he was actually overreaching and hitting himself which was actually making him get in the bridle more."

When asked for the supreme effort in the straight, Mount Everest dug deep to hold out the late finishing burst from Shutupanshuffle to a head. Dunn now believes Mount Everest is ready to progress through the grades and conquer the metropolitan staying ranks.

"I think you'll find him this time next year as a nice sort of staying horse," Dunn said. "Just probably a Wednesday to maybe a Saturday class horse," before adding "He's still very much a baby."
