A Stakes Winning Sensation

15th June, 2010

Pellizotti (photo by Tarod Clarke) landed the Listed Dalrello Stakes in a quick smart time.

Competing for the second time this preparation and 12 days after breaking his maiden at the same track, Pellizotti jumped like a scolded cat from barrier 5 in the $100,000 Listed Dalrello Stakes at Doomben on the Bank holiday Monday of the Queen's Birthday weekend.

With a heady early tempo, Dwayne Dunn idled the son of Stratum into cruise control and allowed the cavalry of Queensland's youngsters to cross and take up the running. Settling like a seasoned old pro, Dwayne Dunn angled out as the field swung for home and the son of Stratum quickened with an explosion of speed that only the very best horses possess. Putting a length on the field within a matter of strides, Dwayne later recalled that "he had the race sewn up and I never doubted that he would hold the chasing field despite the close margin at the end."

Stopping the clock in a time of 1.10:42sec, Pellizotti re-wrote the record books for the Doomben 1200m for 2 year olds by nearly a second and a quarter, taking the title from Shellscrape in the previous running of the race.

Pellizotti now heads to the paddock and with a two year career that netted $94,000 in prizemoney from 5 starts and 2 wins and 3 Stakes Performances to boot, the expectations from the excited connections is to build this entire son of Stratum into a future stallion propect.

Congratulations to Les & Sue Smith and Peter & Trish Carrick who enjoyed the hospitality of the Doomben Race Club and also to those owners unable to attend.
