Cavalaire Bay returned to winning form with an eye catching win at Moonee Valley and in doing so knocked off his stable mate Grecian Choice.
Under the guidance of the Ben Knobel (a3) Cavalaire Bay jumped as a 20/1 outsider, but a smart ride by the young apprentice soon had the son of Red Ransom in a perfect trailing position with the opportunity to have a last crack his stable mate Grecian Choice. Flowing off heels as they entered into the straight, Ben Knoble knuckled down to some hard riding to out gun Jason Maskiel for a well deserved victory and his first city win in Victoria.
Cavalaire Bay's win was somewhat of a turn around in form as his last preparation had not offered the connections much joy following his gelding after a dissapointing run in the Group 2 Alistair Clarke Stakes.
"I suppose he was a Group performed horse up against restricted class horses" mused Lee Freedman about the horse that had previously ran second in a Group 3 at Flemington to the now Hong Kong based Trade Fair "But ultimately his win did come out of the blue!"
"However a special mention must go to both the kids (Jason Maskiel & Ben Knobel) who both rode a flawless race and gave both my charges every conceivable chance to win."
"Its nice to come to the races and to train a winner, but even nicer when you own a bit of the horse!" Said Lee with a smile as he made reference to his 10% Stake in Cavalaire Bay that he owns in partnership with Quicksilver's Alan Green and Rip Curl's Brian Singer.
